These days, reading the official Second Life blog is a bit like watching a downed man getting repeatedly kicked in the face. The live team at Linden Lab is dealing with a number of serious problems that negatively effect a community of creative people who express themselves in all manner of media.
But in the midst of this... I can only call it a shit storm... a person on the inside has risen above the cacophony and in a clear, calm voice sung out:
"We are all real humans. What's going on, this hurts us all. Nobody wants this. Here is every scrap of information we have. Let's be humans together."
Everyone who runs or uses a service like Second Life should dream of attracting people with voices like Torley Wong's, and I hope the Lindens know it.
Trevor, I wanted to say a gracious thankyou for writing this. It pretty much sums up what I mean, because negative redundancy will always be around humans — but so is triumph, and bypassing the crap in the world.
The grid continues to grow, and ongoing, there will be more problems, indubitably. But coming together — and not just in some shallow way but being earnest about what pains us and how we *all* would like to experience things better, both a happier First + Second Life, is what's ultimately memorable and meaningful.
Thanks graciously again, this made me smile bigtime! :D
