In Ogoglio screencast #5 I mentioned that ogoglio spaces can tie into the existing 3D communities and tools, so here I'll go into a little more detail on one way that can happen.
First, since I'm no 3D artist I went browsing on Turbo Squid for a model from someone with talent. In the free architecture section I ran across a modern apartment building:
The author provided a 3DS file, which I downloaded and imported into Blender:
I rotated and scaled the model to my liking and exported it to an OBJ file, which I then uploaded into an ogoglio space:
(that's my big red robot head blocking the shot)

It took longer to take screenshots and write this post than to find, convert, and import the model. If I had a little more time, I could tweak the lighting so that it doesn't look quite so stark.
I wonder what will happen to these 3D model sites when their market expands beyond game makers and animators to anyone with a web browser and the urge to tweak a space.

Hi Trevor,
I would like to learn more about Sketchup to Blender or SL engine pipelines - when you think they should exist in real life?
Cheers,

The current version of Sketchup Pro can export models which Blender can import. The Prim.Blender project (http://sourceforge.net/projects/primdotblender) lets you export simple blends into Second Life.
